James was formerly a partner in the finance and real-estate practice group of Baker Botts LLP, one of largest law firms in the United States where he served as the principal attorney for a Fortune 500 company in the acquisition of a high-end resort in Austin, Texas and the assemblage of surrounding land tracts for development of a 4,000-acre master-planned community. He also handled numerous commercial real-estate transactions on behalf of an international real-estate firm headquarted in Houston, and a variety of financing transactions on behalf of a major U.S. bank and other institutional lenders.

In addition to his work for Qvinci, James advises and assists buyers and sellers of large and high-value Texas ranches and land (texaslegacyranches.com).

When he is not consumed by Qvinci or out on a ranch, he strives to find more time to work on his Ghost Eagles action-adventure series for teens (ghosteagles.com). He also enjoys a variety of outdoor activities with his wife and five children, including hiking, fishing, hunting, camping, and caving. Besides writing, his interests include military history, anything from or about Scotland (including haggis), and the natural-resources investment markets.
